Stress...discuss.

Nerves.
When i was younger i didn't suffer from nerves or stress. As the years have progressed i seem to be more prone to stress. So much so that right now i can hardly sleep. I put that down to work really. I really need to sort out what i want from work and then get on with making it happen. The wedding is a bit stressful. Not much, just a bit. The house buying is really stressful. Having my work laptop stolen is a bit on the pain in the posterior side but nothing major.
So what do we do about these stresses? Meditation is how i used to cope previously. Periods of silent contemplation.
I also realised that stress is largely of your own making. You make it stressful by virtue of what you value or case about being out of your control. Or that you don't feel confident that you can pull something through.
So surely the secret lies inside.

How do you deal with stress?

pressure and stress are different. pressure is what others and situations put you under. stress is what you bring upon yourself, as you rightly say.

to me, its about control. people get stressed because they feel out of control on certain important aspects, situations etc. Either regain control methodically, or accept that the control is not yours to have and ride the waves of that situation, whatever it is. We cant be in charge and drive everything all of the time.

You'll sort it numnum. You know how to get through this. Its a tough time - wedding etc. Some things will just be. Let others sort it - no reflection on you if it isnt EXACTLY how you want it - so what? in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter if the babana tree is a bit brown or if the elephant is a bit grumpy? ;-)

I think you're right, I think you can certainly affect the level of stress you experience depending on the attitude you take towards it.

I find a combination of time on your own doing things that relax you, and time with good friends enjoying their company works for me.

Plus I am the sort of person that kind of has to have something to worry about. that doesn't help :-)

I do different things until one works. Like you, I enjoy quiet time and meditation. Sometimes though it isn't enough. Sometimes exercise helps, especially if there's any anger attached to the feeling of stress. Soaking in a hot shower or bath helps relax me physically before attempting the mental part.

When all else fails, move a muscle and change a thought. Do something else to take your mind off things.

    Good luck!

How do I deal with stress? I changed myself completely. You can hopefully verify this. You knew me in my early twenties, you know me now. There is a difference, is there not?
