Sore Throat Sunday

One would imagine, that after this season's Flu, you wouldn't get another virus. How wrong was I. I have got the most annoying sore throat that produces a tickly dry cough. I think my resolution for March is to start running again, get a little bit more exercise than I currently do. Don't want to be ill in June!

Some interesting events occurred this weekend.
  1. We finalised the list of attendees for the Civil Registry Reception. A nice group, but I do think its slightly lopsided towards a certain group of people. Alas there's not much I can do, since the Parents think its the way it should be.
  2. The old todger finally accepted my offer on his house. Now its time to rush through the Surveys and Conveyancing before someone Gazumps me.
  3. I have almost chosen a wedding invite design. Somewhat restricted in choice, and not entirely happy with it, but I guess its going to be thrown in the bin after the day, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
  4. Watched Resident Evil 2 (a sorry excuse to show two slim ladies in skimpy outfits), and Hellboy (yuck, a waste of time).
I also find the comments made by the Lord Mayor of London, regarding a Jewish reporter being like a Nazi Concentration Camp Guard very upsetting. To then follow this through with a comment about 'everyone working for the Daily Mail group being regaded as a valuable part of society, well you're not!' is just indicative of a self-righteous ego maniac imho. What about people who work there because they need money to feed themselves and its the best job they could get? What about the fact that despite the political leanings of the paper, everyone has a part to play in balancing and arguing political views? I think that guy needs to be booted from City Hall, but knowing Londoners, you just need to show us a sexy woman, or a soundbite from him promising something nice, and we'll vote for him - unless there is someone equally celebrity like to oppose him. I honestly believe Londoners don't really vote on politics when it comes to City Hall. Case in Point - Extending and Increasing the Tariff of the Congestion Charge. Soon it will come alllll the way out to the M25. Smashing.

Congratulations on the house! Don't worry about the guest list and invites; after the day you won't remember any of it anyway. All you'll recall are the endless photos and traditional thingies people want you to do, and most of all, how beautiful your bride was! *G*

Would it be considered an act of terrorism to start a fire ant colony in the Lord Mayor's office? Just a thought. ;0)

    Feel better!

Not up on what the Lord Mayor said (do you have a link?), but I do find the Daily Mail beneath contempt. I wouldn't work there if it was the only job available, just like I wouldn't work for Nestle. Got to have some borders and boundaries, and that's one of mine.

Hope the sore throat doesn't evolve into something worse, although as I was saying yesterday, get the bugs out of the way for the summer!

Yes, but the minute you generalise on people who work in a company, you enter a world of problems and grey areas.

Prejudice is the word I guess. He's making a judgement on less than entire fact and coming to a conclusion of judgement.

    He's a bit looney anyway.

red ken is a muppet most of the time anyway, although personally I am fully behind the notion of a mayoral figurehead for london and currently, much like the England football manager situation, I'm not sure I prefer any of the alternatives.

so call someone part of the nazi party, and then to change the comment to a concentration camp worker (ie, you're just following orders and it's your oders I find contemptible) is just plain ignorant. I dont think there is a antisemitic tone to what he said, unless the reporter was identifiably jewish (ie, religious identifiers about his person). I think ken was just being a dick again. I do agree with Damo though - the daily mail is just a dangerous mouthpiece for the ever dwindling section of middle englander society... Red Ken vs The Mail? That should be amusingly retitled the 'ignorant vs the overtly racist'.

It's a sliding scale of lunacy. I'm prepared to give Telegraph readers the benefit of the doubt if they seem OK, but there's really no excuse for reading, or having a hand in producing, the Daily Mail. Hardline? Moi? Guilty as charged in this instance.

None of this relates to the other comments by the Mayor, seeing as I still don't know what they were!

Heh heh. You're only saying that because I sometimes read my mum's copy of the Telegraph. Nicky Wire reads the Telegraph as well, you know.

With you on the Daily Mail, though. It's a piece of bigoted shit and there's no excuse for having any involvement in it at all.

Note: Mr Livingstone: It's nothing to do with you because your paper is a load of scumbags and reactionary bigots.

    :)

Ah, the Evening Standard, not the Daily Mail. Although also published by Associated PressI think and not the nicest of papers from what I gather.

Unfortunately, in a public position, you sometimes have to do things you find unpalatable. Not talking to the Mail or the Express or whoever is something I can choose to do, but probably not the Mayor of London. And the comments he made before that won't have helped...
