The best trilogy of modern times?

There is something to be said about The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. I believe its one of the most amazing filming feats of modern times. I sat down this weekend to watch all three Extended DVDs, and I was amazed at just how involving it is. I'm not a AD&D fan, infact I used to be rather cruel and ridicule a few friends who played (and still play) AD&D at school. Dragons, Trolls, Dwarfs, Elfs, Wizard - it was all too much for me. But here I am, enraptured by what is effectively the finest example of AD&Dism there is. All hats off to that world, and an amazing triple hats off to the LOTR team for an amazing trilogy.

How does it rank amongst other films? Well, don't go there, since you cannot compare Star Wars with LOTR with The Godfather with Back To The Future with The Matrix. These are all great films in their own rights, and each was cutting edge or highly entertaining in their own time. LOTR just happens to be one of the great Epics of our time. So much so, that it provoked jealousy amongst the director community, and we must now Suffer Tom Cruise in Steven Spielbergs 3 part adaptation (hmmm) of The War Of The Worlds. You know, sometimes its better to just let others have a bit of limelight you know Steven, otherwise people just think of you as bitter and twisted.

On to better things. I have another 7 days of work before I break for Xmas. Am super chuffed with that, and boy is it a dream and a half!

    Peter Jackson did such an amazing job bringing the books to life that even those of us who tend to be angry at changes made from book to film didn't mind so much the changes that Jackson made. The one thing that will always bother me is in Fellowship of the Ring, when Arwen challenged the Nazgul to cross the river to claim Frodo's almost lifeless body. Never happened. Glorfindel is the one who saved Frodo; Arwen was rarely seen at all in any of the books. Oh well. Other than that I loved these movies! Jackson has decided to tackle their predecessor, The Hobbit. I can't wait to see what he does with that one!

    Agree about Spielballs - "just leave it son! It aint worth it" Alas, the old 'anything you can do...' mentality over in tinseltown.
    On that note - Tinseltown - tinsel is crap and smells funny - imagine a town made of tinsel. Yikes.

    It's funny that the initials of the genre are ADD as you say, because anyone with the othertype of ADD is going to have a job sitting through all three films...

    Agreed, Peter Jackson did a tremendous job, and yes, tinseltown is just a macho showmanship world where ego's rule. I presonally have a dislike for Tom Cruise anyway, he totally ruined Mission:Impossible, and used it as his vehicle to join the action hero world of James Bond. Still, its still not as good as the Die Hard films, which I find most entertaining even if they are repetitive.

    Mate, I feel for those with ADD trying to watch LOTR. I had dreams of Hobbits and Elves on Sunday night. It wasn't normal.
